De-cluttering

Do you love the idea of having a de-cluttered home? Where everything has its place, and you know where everything is? That’s hard to achieve in reality, as we all accumulate ‘stuff’, but it’s a good thing to aim for. In a severely cluttered-up house, some rooms actually become unusable, and life for the owner becomes limited and frustrating.

As we follow Jesus it’s important to make sure that our lives are not cluttered up, and therefore unusable by the Master. Here are two areas to focus on today.

Strive for a de-cluttered mind. Have clear thoughts of God’s character – His patience, compassion, holiness, righteousness. Have clear thoughts of God’s love towards you, His Father’s heart, His provision, His good plans for you. Refuse to let your mind be cluttered up by the cares of this life, or by worry, anxiety or fear. Try to spend some time each day letting your mind focus on the promises of God.

Strive for a fully de-cluttered heart. Don’t have a divided heart. Don’t have one foot in the world and one foot following Jesus. “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Matthew 6v24. Ask God to cleanse your heart from any secret idols, selfish ambitions, or hidden agendas. “Little children, keep yourselves from idols” 1 John 5v21.

“Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us” Hebrews 12v1

Prayer “Father, please grant me clear thoughts about You and Your great love towards me. Cleanse my mind from worrying and focusing on problems. Help me to fix my thoughts upon Your promises. And cleanse my heart from any ungodly desires, or selfish ambitions. I want my life to be one that can be used by You to the fullest extent possible. In Jesus mighty name, Amen.”
