WHAT IS THE SIGN? (2)
Like the sign of the workman/ man with an umbrella sign, we can only see that which our hearts allow us to see. If we desire to "see" the new things that God is unfolding in our day, we need to know the word of God well and have pliable, soft hearts that are open to the Holy Spirit, not hardened hearts like the disciples, who missed seeing the deeper implications of Jesus' signs. May we all desire hearts of flesh, so that we may grow in stature in Christ.
WHAT IS THE SIGN? (1)
We all know the signs: a build up of traffic; a warning sign; temporary traffic lights; and a necessary deviation around the obstruction in the road. We rarely, if ever, give a thought as to what the works actually are; we are more concerned about continuing on our journeys…….
FIGHTING WITH ALL THE ARMOUR OF GOD
In our prayer lives, what is it that we take to the spiritual battlefield? We fight our enemy, not only with the sword of the Spirit, but with all those other elements of armour that have been entrusted to us…
Joy, Praise and Thanksgiving
When He was on earth, Jesus was a joyful person to be around. Psalm 45:7 talks about being anointed with the oil of gladness more than anyone else, and Hebrews 1:8-9 tells us that this refers to Jesus. Jesus was full of joy.
All the Greatness, Power and Glory Belong to God
Let us never underestimate the value of worship. Our chief service and ministry are to worship God. Worship, of course, goes beyond singing songs. It includes all the ways in which we show that we value God above all things.
Holy Spirit Fullness
As much as we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit to edify ourselves, we also need to be filled so that we can minister to other people, especially people who do not yet know the Lord.
The Aroma of Christ
Jesus may not have used soap as He went round the table to wash each disciples’ feet in turn. However, once the disciple’s feet had been cleansed, metaphorically the aroma of Christ would have attached to the feet of them all.
God Of The Sea
Imagine that you are planning to go on a cruise. You see two ships being advertised. One ship has been built by someone who has never built a boat before and has no technical qualifications to do so. The crew have no sailing experience; nor have they had any training. The captain is unqualified and inexperienced. The destination is unknown.
Names Written In Heaven
Earlier in His ministry, Jesus had sent His 12 disciples on mission to the northern towns of Israel, where He was popular. Now, He sends a wider group of followers to the southern regions of Israel, where there is more hostility towards Jesus.
A 'Diabolical' Devotional
Whenever I say, "My will be done", not God's will, I am saying I want to be God of my own tiny universe. When I say, "My will be done", I am actually behaving as Lucifer did.
THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE
As a candle flame burns, not only does it provide light, but also heat, and if scented, a pleasing aroma. It is also portable, such that many different spaces can be affected by these qualities.
APPLES OF GOLD
When we are hard-pressed, sad, and down-hearted, do we turn to that relevant, “now word” that most aptly speaks into our situation?
WHAT CAN THE RIGHTEOUS DO?
As we turn on our televisions or read the newspapers, I am sure most of us will be saddened with a feeling of helplessness at the ever-increasing un-Godly ways that are portrayed in society. We read of organisations like Stonewall and Mermaids having ever greater influence, particularly in the lives of the young; calls for easier abortions and introduction of euthanasia; ungodly attitudes in our political leaders’ lives; corruption in the workplace; evil portrayed in the arts and entertainment; and the list goes on and on. Effectively, all so-called pillars of society are being attacked with a godless, satanic agenda. What are these pillars?
WHEN THE FIRE OF DESTRUCTION COMES
A blazing inferno is moving quickly in your direction. You feel the intense heat, and the air is clogged with smoke. Animals and birds flee past you, and even the insects attempt to escape. You would run too if you could, but unfortunately, you are a tree, rooted to the very spot with the fire bearing directly down upon you. The fire begins to lick at your leaves, and you wait....
“Nevertheless, hereafter…”
Do you feel downcast because of your sins, or even because of others’ sins and their hardness of heart which seems impenetrable? There can always be a ‘Nevertheless, hereafter…’ where sin is confessed, forgiveness is received and the hard heart replaced with a heart of flesh.
SAMUEL’S HORN
The Bible frequently mentions rams’ horns as a tool in service for the Lord. The ram’s horns give the sheep protection, and are representative of strength. They were also used by people as a type of trumpet (shofar) for sounding an alarm or warning. But they were also used as containers
Those Who Sow In Tears Will Reap With Joy
There are many stories of people who endured great hardship in sharing the gospel but who, eventually, were able to rejoice when it was time to reap that which had been sown.
The Harvest Is Now
It's important to note that the call to share our faith is not exclusive of other callings on our lives. God may have gifted us in many areas so that we can minister in different ways and in various circumstances, but that doesn’t mean that we are at liberty to neglect the Great Commission to disciple people as we go into the world (Matthew 28:19). For many Christians, the Great Commission has become the Great Omission, as so many believers are omitting to share the gospel…
The Fields Are White Unto Harvest
It was Theodore Roosevelt who said, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Do we care about those who don’t yet know Jesus?
